Music has always been an important and integral part of the New Spirit experience. Under the leadership of Rev. Jack Hoggatt, Interim Minister of Music, Sunday morning worship music ranges from lively to contemplative, representing a variety of musical styles. The Wednesday evening Taizé service features choral and instrumental music of the prayerful, quiet type.
New Spirit offers a great diversity of music during each worship service with a dynamic group of vocalists and instumentalists. We enjoy a wide variety of musical styles. Gospel to Broadway, African Freedom songs to Taizé, the latest in contemporary praise to African-American Spirituals, all have a place in the worship life of New Spirit.
Rehearsals for both services are held in the hour before the services commence on Sundays and Wednesdays. There is also a Saturday rehearsal for the Sunday choir once a month. The music program also produces two concerts each year, often with guests from the community.
Whether you have been a member of the congregation for some time or you are considering your first visit, if you enjoy worshipping through music and the arts, I encourage you to let us know of your interest and we will get you involved.
If you have any questions at all, please email Jack Hoggatt, Interim Music Director, or call him at the church office, 510.704.7729.
