Did you know that our annual Gala is coming up in less than ten days?
Dear Beloved Community;
Fall has always been my favorite season. I have very fond childhood memories of the first morning each year that I noticed the crispness in the air and smelled the wood smoke layered within wisps of fog. As a young child I was excited to go shopping for new school clothes and supplies. It was a time of anticipation and change.
As we enter the Fall season at New Spirit, we can feel a similar anticipation as our path unfolds before us. Some great preachers are lined up for the coming weeks, including Betty McAfee this coming Sunday, September 10th and Rev. Elder Jim Mitulski on September 17th. Our Annual Gala on the 16th promises to be loads of fun! And our annual retreat will soon be here, promising new experiences of the Divine. In addition to these special times, our accustomed ways of being Christ in the world – social justice ministry, caring ministry, worship and prayer ministries – continue to bless not only our community, but each of us who participate in them.
My prayer for all of us in the coming weeks is that we intentionally remain open, stepping forward in faith, eagerly anticipating what God is doing and will do within us. If discouragement comes our way, we can experience it as a stepping stone toward encouragement and healing that we share together through God’s Spirit. The more open we are to the Spirit’s working within us, the freer the Spirit is to bless us in unexpected ways.
